| The "knocker and head applique" is not only the components of Traditional Chinese Architecture but also an amazing part of the Chinese gate culture,which have a long history.At present,this artistic decoration is gradually fading out of people’s visual field.This paper taking knocker and head applique of Shanxi traditional residence as the specific research object.Through the field investigation and summarization of the literature,this article elaborates the following aspects in depth and detail:the historical background,the modeling structure,the decorative pattern and the material technology of knocker and head applique.It is found that knocker and head applique of Shanxi area can be divided into stereoscopic modeling and graphic modeling,in which the graphic modeling is an unique form of the southern part of Shanxi.According the difference of contour line,knocker’s shape can be divided into circular,"U" shape and alien shape,the head applique’s shape can be divided into circular,square and alien shape.Plant theme,animal theme,artifact theme and text theme are usually used as decorative patterns in knocker and head applique.Those external features also reflect the aesthetic characteristics of knocker and head applique,including the rationality of the structure,the diversity of expression techniques,the law of formal beauty and the overall unity and harmony.This decorative component is the epitome of the cultural background of the Shanxi area,which combines folk-custom,art,culture and emotion.As an architectural heritage of Chinese traditional cultural,knocker and head applique implies the Shanxi people’s traditional ideas and folk culture,reflects their pursuit of a better life and embodies the simple thoughts and feelings. |
