Analysis On The Characteristics And Components Of Courtyard Space In Beijing Dashilar Area

Dashilar,as a typical zone of old Beijing City,has plenty of Hutongs and crowded courtyards,besides the famous commercial streets and the East Liulichang Street.Those crowded courtyards were developed by quadrangles,most of which were dismantled or declined over time,then transformed to courtyards.In the present,the researches of the inhabitation form in those courtyards are not comprehensive.This inhabitation form is beneath the attention of society and scholars,because of its universality and specificity in the old Beijing City represented by Dashilar.What is the internal appearance of those courtyards? How is the living standards? And how to reform them in the future? We can't find systematic answers through present researches.This thesis investigates and analyzes the present situation and constituent elements of Dashilar area.The writer wants to provide references for the future development in the region,as well as record the status quo for further research.This thesis chooses Yangmeizhu Street and 193 kinds of courtyards from 14 streets of both northen and southern sides as research subjects.Firstly,based on the field research gather the materials of the space of the courtyards.Secondly,sort materials.Then,use graphology and comparative method for the research of present space situation in those courtyards,and try to find out its universality and specificity.Finally,reach to conclusions.This thesis contains 7 chapters.The first chapter is introduction.It introduces the topic selection background and significance,the thesis to constitutes and research methods.The second chapter tells the history of the Dashilan,the formation process and the origin of courtyard;The third chapter states the process of observing and researching about courtyard space;The fourth chapter comprehends and analyzes the number of household in courtyard and the types of plans from the macroscopic angles,on the basic of which,we sum up the courtyard's area,depth,width and length.The fifth chapter analyses the length of path,the area and the types of the outside space in the courtyard at the middle level.and then we carry a search about the functional room and the others in house,the former includes living room,kitchen,washroom,the later consists of storage rooms,interior corridors,empty rooms;The sixth chapter sets forth the elements of the public space,such as entrance,corridor,facade and ground from the microscopic angles;The last chapter gives a summary and prospects.We hope the essay will have great benefits in urban regeneration and revolution of courtyard in Dashilan.
