The Spillway is an important subsystem in hydropower project and plays a critical role. The rationality of spillway is related to the safety, economy and risk of hydropower station and its whole project. The optimal design of flood discharge structures is vital in the practice of water conservancy projects.Hydraulic model test and numerical simulation methods was used to study hydraulic characteristics of drainage structures. The method and process in Hydraulic model test were closed to the actual experiment, and the measured data were reliable. The numerical simulation method has the advantages of high speed, good adaptability and low cost and easy to design. Therefore, the combination of hydraulic model test and numerical simulation has become an important method to study the discharge problem in hydraulic engineering. In this paper,Wudaoku hydropower project was as the research object, the FLUENT software was used to simulate the three-dimensional of flow field of the overflow of the Wudaoku hydropower, the structured hexahedral grid and unstructured tetrahedral grid were used to divide the mesh, the standard k ~ ε turbulence model closed Reynods equation was selected, and the VOF method was used to track the free surface, the SIMPLE algorithm was used to correct the pressure. Finally, the calculation results of the discharge capacity, pressure distribution, water surface line, and velocity field were obtained under typical operating conditions.By comparing the results of the model test, the results were consistent with each other, indicating that the three-dimensional numerical simulation was reasonable and correct, which can provide scientific and convenient way for design and research in practical engineering.
