With the ceaseless enlargement of shipping fleet and vessel dimension,traffic density in narrow channel increased a lot.Moreover,the complicated navigation environment of narrow channel makes the maneuver and collision avoidance action taken by large vessels in such area much more difficult.As a result,ship collision accident happens occasionally.In order to effectively reduce ship collision accidents and increase the traffic efficiency in narrow channel,this paper makes a study on action decision making theory for ship collision avoidance in narrow channel on the basis of previous research.Depending on the four quaternion ship domain analysis framework,a new kind of ship domain and arena model is established according to the special characteristic of narrow channel.This collision avoidance decision-making system may provide the operational suggestion in judging the encounter situation and collision risk as well as action advice.The main research work in this paper focuses on the following aspects:1.A brief analyze on the stipulations of International Regulations for Preventing Collision at Sea and Collision Avoidance Rules in Rivers,as well as the navigation environment in narrow channel is carried out and a summary of key points and cautions for ship navigating in narrow channel is thereafter demonstrated.2.A brief analysis on comparing the difference and merits of existing ship domains in narrow channel is carried out.A new ship domain model and arena model in narrow channel which takes the interaction between ships and bank effect into account,as well as the maneuverability of the vessel,is established.3.According to the characteristic and the process of collision avoidance decision-making adopted by ship officers,an appropriate action decision-making system for collision avoidance in narrow channel is established,which is based on the combination of the ship domain model and arena model with the existing action-decision-making system.4.A series of simulation are carried out by using MATLAB software,for the purpose of verifying the models established in this paper.
