| In the process of basic education reform, school space is always free from the important issues of reform, compared with the school culture construction, curriculum reform, teaching reform and teacher professional development. The existing research mostly focus on the perspective of architects, principals and teachers, but students as the most important users of school space are often overlooked. Therefore, this study attempts to explore the school space from the perspective of students. The study mainly adopts observation method and interview method, selects five schools to conduct investigation, and forty students in two schools to conduct in-depth interviews. It is aimed at finding the school space in students’ eyes and the existing problems, and then proposing some possible improvement strategies. The form of space and the function of space are closely linked.Throughout the history of school development, the form of its space has experienced from invisible to tangible, and then from the standardization to the diversification;the function of school space also experienced three important stages:focus on practical function, practical and aesthetic function are equally important, and then current focus on overall educational function.Student’s cognition of school space is still in the shallow stage.Generally, they perceive the school space by size, scale, segregation, territoriality, and so on.They have a demand of space for safety, comfort and freedom. For students, the school space is designed, and full of power and control.Spatial demand is based on the user’s activities in the space.Students’expectations of space function depend on the intent and behavior of the practice in space. The main school activities of students are learning and social interaction.According to the different ways of student learning activities, school space can be divided into formal learning space and informal learning space. From the perspective of students’ daily communication, school space can be divided into class daily communication space and non-class daily communication space.Based on the degree of openness of students’ social interaction activities, school space can be divided into public space and personal space. The boundaries between the three groups of relative space are gradually blurred, and informal learning space,non-class daily communication space and personal space have been paid more and more attention. Therefore,It is recommended that the school construction be focused on students’activities, which includes multi-functional hybrid space to achieve functional diversification, and students’ deep involvement in design. |
