Suffering a series urban problems caused by the development of motorization which led by sedan cars, many countries recognized the importance of walking as a traditional way of travel, a promotion of walking has been set off. But at the same time, in the cities of our country, the thought that development should dependents on the motorization was widely accepted and practiced. The walking network has been seriously destroyed. Walking in the city became more and more difficult, public space and public life based on the pedestrian network were also gradually fade away. So it’s very necessary to work on the pedestrian network.In this study, a accurate quantitative analytical method of pedestrian network form was chose. The existing quantitative analytical methods for pedestrian network is either direct calculation, and can not reflect the effect of iteration, or it is more emphasis on topological relations and ignore the sensitivity of walking to non topological factors, can’t reflect the attention to efficiency and the choice of a variety of paths.In view of this fact, this study proposed the "Efficiency-Choice" model, which is based on two important factors of pedestrian network, the linearity of path and the flow direction of intersection, then carried out iterative calculation with this factors. In this study, the definition of the characteristic parameter of the efficiency and selection was defined, and the calculation formula was derived. The GIS Arc used as the technical platform to complete the calculation and data visualization.In the part of empirical research, Copenhagen, New York, Denmark, Chinese Hongkong and Chinese Chongqing City were chosen as research objects. These four cities was different in development background, pedestrian network form and development degree, which includes not only the worldwide recognized successful case, also contains a sample that represented the general status of Chinese cities. In order to describe the efficiency and selection of pedestrian network accurately and reveal the law of pedestrian network configuration, the four sample was calculated accord the "Efficiency- Selection" model. Through the comparison of these four cities, the difference of efficiency support and choice supply between them was revealed, and the large gap of Chongqing Daping area with other pedestrian zones was found. For these differences and shortcomings, some repair strategies was proposed to Chongqing Daping walking unit. Finally, the "Efficiency- Select" model was used to verify the effectiveness of these strategies.
