Statistics show that human factors is the main cause of aviation accidents. The main cause of accidents and incidents is human error of flight crew in the cockpit. Human error of flight crew is concerned with management, cockpit environment, design, and pilot personal characteristics. There are operation links in the end of the workflow of human error. Boeing and Airbus accept the concept that human error can be reduced by design; it means preventing error in operation links of workflow of flight crew.Human factors is considered in designing civil aircraft cockpit, and error proofing design for controls in aircraft cockpit is one of the design goals of ergonomics. The two largest aircraft manufacturers, Boeing and Airbus make use of error proofing design of controls to reduce flight crew error in operation. Based on operation error management ways, 11 kinds of error proofing design methods are established. A questionnaire survey is used in the research, and on the basis of the analysis of the flight mission, questions related to error proofing design of controls are designed. Modify questions after pliots survey several times and test the questionnaire and get the final version of the questionnaire. Issuing and recovering questionnaire, and 117 valid questionnaires are recovered. The questionnaire was tested from two respects of reliability and validity. Based on questionnaire survey, the paper studies on the differences and similarities between Boeing and Airbus aircraft by analyzing questionnaire data. By independent-samples t test, it studies the reasons for the different efforts of error proofing design methods between Boeing and Airbus aircraft. The analysis is divided into two parts: the degree of security support and the rate of recurrence. It considers the effects of age, driving experience, technician grade on average value of each question about the same error proofing of controls by analysis of variance. It turns out that Boeing design have superior complex motion design and Airbus design is emphasis on logical protection. With the growing of age and driving experience, the frequency of operating error have different trend for different controls. The article provides a reference for the study of error proofing methods in the cockpit.
