The rapid development of the aviation industry brings the convenience of life and economic development, but also leads to the increase of air traffic flow. The controllers’ memory load is increasing, as the number of aircrafts in their working precinct increases, which causes enormous working challenges to controllers. The number of unsafe events tends to increase because of air traffic controllers’ wrong judgments, forgetfulness and omission. In order to ensure safety and orderly operation of air traffic, it is necessary to analysis and research on the factors which affect controllers working memory capacity.In this paper, study of controllers’ working memory is the starting point. Firstly it introduces the working process of controllers and points it out that controllers are facing a larger memory load, then analyzes the factors and characteristics of controllers’ working memory.Based on the research of the basic information coding scheme of the current three radar control system, it selects the appropriate interface information coding index and the actual situation of control work to carry out experimental design of controllers’ working memory;To ensure the authenticity and validity of the experiment, it adopts VS2010 and uses VB.NET language to give controllers’ working memory a simulation platform. 14 students were selected as the experimental control subjects; and experimental data was collected;After analyzing the obtained data, and researching the relationship between encoding and controllers’ working memory, the following conclusions can be drawn. It can provide some reference for future radar control system interface design.In this experimental environment, the minimum time for controllers to remember a complete scutcheon information is 3500 ms. Gray background is better than black background of Radar control interface. Different signage color memory accuracy in descending order: white> yellow-green> green> blue> red. Therefore, red is suitable for warning; white, yellow-green, green color are suitable for work signs; and blue is suitable for non- jurisdiction area.
