Construction projects are production processes of not only building entities, but also information. By using technologies of Building Information Modeling (BIM), building entities can be connected with building information wholly, and the efficiency of production, processing, transmission and application of building information improves. Developments of construction industrialization improve the production efficiency of building entities, of which traditional distributed manufacturing processes would change to installation processes of building components mass produced in factories. In this context, it is imperative to design new classification and coding systems of building information characterized by building components, which are bases of not only transmissions and managements of building information, but also production and managements of building.In this paper, the standardization of classification and coding systems of building information has been analyzed from two levels. One is the system standardization of classifications and coding, and the other is the method standardization of them.Analyzation of the former is based on the basic theories of classification and coding, and that of the latter is based on the comparison of building information classification systems used by representative countries,areas or organizations, including China, North America, Europe and ISO.In the chapter three, the concept of informationizing of building components was defined at first, and then its characteristics and requirements in different stages and professionals of BIM were analyzed.In the chapter four, the process of the building information classification system provided by ISO was analyzed, and based on the construction information classification model,a new classification model and frameworks characterized by building components is deduced,as well as corresponding classification tables.Based on the above analysis/"Information Classification and Coding Systems of Building Components Based on BIM"was basically established under the background of both construction informationization and industrialization,and then classified object, classification and coding method were analyzed, and after that four classification tables of "Work Results","Project Stages","Building Components" and "Attributes" came out.Lastly.competing project"I-Yard" of Beijing Jiaotong University team in "2013International Solar Decathlon"was taken for example to demonstrate the application of the new information classification and coding systems in phases of architecture design, virtual construction, components prefabricated and procurement, construction,and how does it realizes the information transmitting between construction resources, construction stages and construction results.
