The new regulation R129 for child restraint system(CRS) was issued by Economic Commission for Europe on August 2013, the CRS lateral impact was added in the new regulation. In order to study the lateral impact damage to child occupants and improve the protection of CRS for child occupant, the whole lateral impact sled test system was established.This topic built a lateral impact test system according to ECE R129. In the process of developing this system, three kinds of tests were carried out, including debugging lateral impact relative velocity pulse, test padding material and ECE R129 standard lateral impact test. How to create the relative velocity pulse is the core issue. The innovation of this project is to use rear impact PU tube produce lateral impact pulse. This innovation reduces the cost of developing a new PU tube and development cycle. Lateral impact test system added the side impact door compare with forward impact system and rear impact system,the side door would contact and collided with CRS. When doing the lateral impact test does not use the real car door, the padding material will take place of the real door. The padding material must meet the regulation requirements, this is a key problem. In this paper a material test system was established and conducted a series of material test.According to the description of the test bench, the first CRS lateral impact system of complete independent was developed.The lateral impact system has been put into use, a number of new regulations standard car test was conducted, research on CRS lateral impact protection has also begun.
