Primary school is the place where primary school students live and study. It is also the environment where primary school students form a habit and develop a moral character.There are more requirements for space of primary school building in cold areas with regional characteristics. Unqualified function space is multifunctional, flexible,and inclusive.It is becoming a trend of primary school building in cold areas.Based on the research of unqualified function space of primary school building in cold area,the paper is aimed at enriching the research achievements,improving the design level of primary school,and making the primary school building meet the requirements of education.First of all,the paper introduced the meaning of cold areas and unqualified function space in the first section,it also defined the research range.Then it introduced the research achievements of unqualified function space design of primary school building in cold areas.At last,the research methods and research route were put forward.In this paper, the author used the method of generalization and summarization,the method of investigation and research,and the method of comparison and analysis.In the second part of this paper,the author analyzed the regional and cultural characteristics of primary school in cold areas. Then the author selected three primary schools in Harbin for research. In this part, the paper summarized problems of primary school design, and concluded the requirements of unqualified function space of primary school architecture in cold areas.The paper illustrated several excellent cases abroad and discussed the design principles from the aspects of layout, form,materials and technology in the third part.Based on the status of primary school design in cold areas, the paper raised up a unqualified function space design method of classroom space, corridor space and activity space, which made it possible to transform traditional school space to unqualified function space.This paper stated the design principle and method of unqualified function space in detail. It has important significance to help design unqualified function space of primary school architecture in cold areas in the future.
