At present, in the epoxy asphalt paving on the deck of steel bridges, a long enough curing period is necessary to guarantee the asphalt mixture can get through the basic curing process. The general curing period for the common epoxy asphalt paving material made in China is as long as 30 days or so. In view of this, it’s necessary to carry out related research on shortening the curing period. The paper develops the fast curing epoxy asphalt paving material, and studies its curing reaction principle and procedure, fast curing characteristics and road performance.First of all, the ratio of raw materials is designed and the principles and methods are presented for the ratio screening. After the viscosity increase and strength index are tested for the material at different ratios, all of them are screened to get the optimized mixing ratio for fast curing epoxy asphalt. Besides, the paper obtains the optimized mixing temperature for such material. In terms of the mixture composition designing, fast curing epoxy asphalt adopts the common steel bridge deck paving dense gradation and the optimized asphalt-aggregate ratio is confirmed.Then, the curing kinetics analysis is conducted on fast curing epoxy asphalt material to get the related kinetic parameter and kinetic equation. It shows that this fast epoxy asphalt material can realize chemical curing. By comparing related parameters of such material with those of normal epoxy asphalt made in China, the fast curing characteristic of the new material is described from the perspective of chemical kinetics.Furthermore, through studying the influences of mixing period and curing period on the asphalt binder viscosity, penetration, strength and mixture stability and comparing its related performances with those of normal epoxy asphalt made in China, the fast curing characteristic of this new material is proved from the perspective of pavement performance. Finally the paper obtains the high-temperature mixing time and the normal temperature curing time.At the end of this paper, a comparative analysis is conducted on the pavement performances of fast curing epoxy asphalt and normal epoxy asphalt made in China, including the strength performance, stability under high and low temperature, water stability and viscoelastic performance. The analysis shows that the high-temperature performance of fast curing epoxy asphalt is superior to that of materials made in China while the low-temperature performance and water stability of the former is closed to those of the latter. The performance of fast curing epoxy asphalt in every aspect can meet the standard requirements, with practical applicability.
