Environmental issues have become increasingly prominent in today's society, especially global climate warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions, and it has attracted attention around the world. As the world's largest carbon emitters, China is facing tremendous pressure of reducing carbon emissions, which is mainly from the building sector. With the rapid economic development and the accelerated urbanization process, China's building energy consumption shows rigid growth trend, and the proportion of energy consumption will gradually rise. Therefore, regarding the building energy consumption and economic development as a breakthrough point, explore the relationship between these two, to promote the sustainable development of building energy efficiency and economic rational grow is very important.According to the research of energy consumption and economic growth both in domestic and abroad, combining with the actual situation in China. First of all, this article analyzed the status of the building energy consumption and economic growth from national and regional level, and pointed out that both of presents declining growth trend at the national level, while shows a great difference between the areas and regions. Then, by using the Kuznets curve theory to predict the development of the relationship among building energy consumption and economic growth. The results show that the curve is long-standing inverted U type, and the building energy consumption is still in the escalate stage, which is far from the ideal point distance. After that we combined with Tapio decoupling model to analyze the relationship between building energy consumption and economic development in China. The main conclusions are:(1) China's building energy strongly dependent on the economy, if not take measures, it is difficult to realize the true meaning of decoupling;(2) Building energy consumption and the tertiary industry output will largely direct impact the decoupling degree of building energy consumption and GDP, the decoupling needed to achieve by tertiary industry energy saving technology, the third industrial production optimization, energy efficiency and other joint action;(3)Over time, the decoupling degree and gap of building energy consumption and GDP, the tertiary industry output tend to be good at the regional level. But great changes in the gap between regions, eastern and central regions of decoupling has improved, while the western region tended to deteriorate. Finally, based on the findings, this research put forward relevant suggestions to promote the building energy consumption and economic decoupling from the government, industry and the public. On one hand, this research provides a reference to the relevant policy guidance in the building energy efficiency and economic development strategy. On the other hand, it can advance the upgrading of industrial structure, economic paradigm shift, science and technology development significantly, which has an important practical significance.
