Model Based Definition technology has been widely used in the field of aviation structure design, however, the application on the manufacturing process is still in the exploratory stage, which is also a hot research topic. Aiming to solve the problem of multi model files management in the representation and the storage of 3D machining process data, in this paper, MBD concept and structural design environment were combined. A MBD numerical control machining process model based on layer was proposed, and the numerical control machining process system based on the model was researched and developed.The main works of this paper are as follows:1) The typical structure features and the non-geometrical information were summarized and classified in the MBD design model. The processing technology model based on MBD was established, and the description method of various kinds of data in the process model was given.2) The overall requirement of the NC machining process design system based on MBD technology was analyzed in detail. Hybrid feature recognition method based on UG feature modeling and human-computer interaction was studied. The process planning method based on the definition of machining element was studied. The reverse generation method of process MBD model based on UG synchronous modeling and surface migration was obtained. The organization and management of multi-process MBD model based on UG layer were presented.3) The overall design of the NC process design system for MBD process was carried out. The work flow of the system was determined. The overall framework was constructed, and the function modules of the system were given.4) A prototype system of NC machining process based on MBD technology was developed. The following functions have been achieved: The aided design of step based on the feature recognition and machining element definition technique, the aided design of three dimensional process based on the process planning and the reverse generation technology of process MBD model, the visualization of three-dimensional MBD machining processing as well as the integration with CAM.
