Xi'an, as the ancient capital for thousands of years, is the spiritual home of the C hinese nation and the indispensable precious wealth of mankind. As one of the four ancient capitals of the world, the style and layout of Xi'an C ity area are difficult to change and the road network structure can not be adjusted by a large margin, thus the layout of the ancient city of Xi'an and the status of the road network can't meet the requireme nts of the development of urban mobility. Therefore, through the development of urban comprehensive transportation planning to solve the problem of Xi'an residents' travel and meet the needs of people's travel and urban sustainable development, seeking balance in the protection of historical and cultural conflicts in the development of urban traffic has become the current urban development is an urgent need to address the problem.Based on the analysis of the protection of ancient city of several typical historical and cultural cities in C hina, this paper summarizes the theoretical method of traffic planning under the protection of ancient city and then introduces the content and system of the integrated traffic planning from six aspects, such as development strategy, traffic organization and so on. Based on this method, through studying the present situation of the ancient city of Xi'an and the forecast data, taking into account the protection of historical and cultural protection in the ancient city area, this article carries out systematics planning from four aspects of the system such as the road network, public transport, slow traffic and static traffic four aspects of the system. Finally, it's necessary to propose a feasible coordinated development strategy of Xi'an City area and development goals of the whole's traffic.
