Flight simulator is an important equipment in the aviation industry. It plays a key role in scientific research and training. However, the main drawbacks of domestic simulators are low fidelity and bad reliability. Washout algorithm is the key algorithm which provides infinite movement in the limited travel. The computation result affects the performance of simulator directly. The washout algorithm optimization is an important method to improve the fidelity of simulator. The washout algorithm is studied using 6-DOF motion platform as the moving parts. It has analyzed and compared aspects of three common washout algorithms, including simulation fidelity, computation speed, parameter type, etc. The classical washout algorithm was chosen as the object of study. After analyzing the factors which affect fidelity of flight simulator, it found that the parameters of filters had an influence on the result. So it built objective functions based on human feeling error. Genetic algorithm is used to optimize the parameters of filters in classical washout algorithm. The optimization used Genetic Algorithm Direct Search in MATLAB. The result was calculated quickly after setting conditions. Finally, the perception mechanism of human was analyzed for further optimization. It proposed a new washout algorithm structure and made simulation experiments based on SIMULINK in MATLAB. New washout algorithm reduced the displacement in the peaks and troughs without changing simulation of smooth segment in the result. The displacement range of 6-DOF motion platform has been improved. By comparing the curves of human feeling, the new algorithm has improved the fidelity of platform. The feasibility of new algorithm was verified after comparing kinds of input signals and it can accumulate experience for further study to improve fidelity of flight simulator.
