The Inheritance And Development Of Residential Space Based On Property Unit In Xiaoxihu, Old South Of Nanjing

Xiaoxihu street block is located in the East of Zhonghua Gate, which is also one of the twenty-two historical feature districts of Nanjing. The living condition there is not in accord with modern city life, which need to be updated in time inclouding developing living space, arousing the vitality of communities, and protecting historical and cultural heritage. This article aims at the continuation of aboriginal living in the manner of small incremental updates. A mode for inheritance and development based on property unit is explored. Therefore an action plan combined with top-down and bottom-up is put forward. The guide design is also submitted based on dimension.This article firstly introduces the method for investigation and assessment of the 216 property units, then sum up the situation problems. The individualized studies are conducted for specific problems. On this basis, the property units are classified in six categories in consideration of inheritance and development. Then the guide design is made in overall strategy, planning, and architecture level.
