Coupling is a basic element of mechanical transmission and torque transmitting motion, mainly be used(link rotary members or the axes, etc.) for hitching with the shafts. The light universal coupling has lots of features, such as fast drive, high rotation accuracy, high load capacity, long bearing life and other advantages. Therefore, they are widely used for all kinds of cold-rolled sheet rolling mill and steel rolling mill.In this paper, we research the SWC-225 CH light universal coupling that the swing diameter is 225 mm. We analyze the structural of light universal coupling of SWC-225 CH and build the model by three-dimensional software of UG firstly. Then we perform finite element analysis by using HyperWoks and ANSYS for main parts of light universal coupling SWC-225 CH, in which the cross results of finite element analysis comparing with the theoretical calculation. After the finite element analysis of intermediate shaft, we put forward the proposal that the intermediate shaft needs heat treatment at tooth surface. Through the modal analysis of the coupling, natural frequencies and critical speed are obtained. According to results of the first-order critical speed from finite element modal analysis and theoretical formulas ones are compared, errors are controlled within 5%, and it is concluded that light SWC-225 CH won't appear of universal coupling resonance.Finally combining the reality of the flange fork fracture and the results of finite element analysis, put forward the optimization area. Using OptiStrcut software for topology optimization of flange fork, and utilize the result of OptiStrcut software optimization as the theoretical basis, then get to optimize the existing SWC-225 CH light universal coupling fork parameters.In summary, through the universal coupling SWC-225 CH light intensity analysis,modal analysis, topology optimization and parameter optimization to improve their performance, make it better able to meet the actual needs of the project.
