Three-Dimensional Controlling And Guiding Mechanism On Urban Block External Form

Urban block form is the elementary unit of urban form and its external part plays the vital role in the cognition of urban physical environment. Meanwhile, the overall order of urban block form depends largely on constraining the formal design of specific architecture within. This paper is therefore aiming at enhancing the overall features of urban form in the intermediate and also the micro perspective, by building up a controlling and guiding mechanism on urban block external form, giving constrains on the specific architecture design programs.For this reason, this paper on one hand focuses on the study of the physical spatial form of urban blocks and ways of analyzing the form characteristics, on the other hand tries to establish the form controlling measures and the relative specifications based on the perspective of urban design. Meanwhile, this paper also discusses the possible architecture design problems under the control of this mechanism.In the research of urban block form, urban design methods and the way of articulating the form features, this paper adopts following research methods:the method of literature review, morphology type research and the drawing of three-dimensional formal diagrams.The main contribution of this paper is to supplement the research on urban form in the urban-block perspective, while coming up with the possible urban design methods and relative technological specifications that help to control and guide architecture design to create better and overall urban block external form characteristics.
