Asphalt concrete is the main form of road pavement, however, as asphalt pavement has a strong capability of heat absorbing, the surface temperature of asphalt pavement increases dramatically to an extremely high temperature, which aggravates the deformation of asphalt pavement, further influence the traffic efficiency and safety, and also exacerbates urban heat island effect, deteriorates human living environment Aiming at reducing the pavement temperature, this paper developed a kind of heat-reflective waterborne coating materials for asphalt pavements and studied the properties and influence factors of the coating by relevant tests.At first, the properties of several waterborne coating substrates were coMPared, epoxy resin coating was chosen and a feasible preparation process of waterborne epoxy resin coating material was put forward Through experimental research on the influence of feed mode, reaction time and temperature, agent content and solid content to the properties of the coating materials, a preparation process of waterborne epoxy resin coatings for asphalt pavement was determined and the strength, adhesion and water resistance tests indicated the superior performance of the self-made waterborne epoxy resin coating.Then through the analyses of thermal environment of asphalt pavement, it is demonstrated that enhancing the albedo of pavement is an effective method to reduce pavement temperature. A cooling experimental device was developed, and the cooling effect of the heat-reflective coating with different combinations was tested, then the cooling effect of heat-reflective coating with different pigment concentration and fillers was analyzed.According to related pavement and coating specifications, the anti-skid performance, adhesion properties and durability of heat-reflective coating for asphalt pavement were tested. The results illustrated the self-made waterborne heat-reflective epoxy resin coating has qualified road performances, and the coating material is able to meet the requirements for road use.Finally, the coatings'anti-rutting performance to asphalt pavement is researched through ABAQUS finite element analyses. The results indicates that the heat-reflective coatings can reduce the rutting deformation of asphalt pavement under high temperature condition.
