Since the emergency of the railway transportation,derailment is one of the main factors influencing the railway safety.Nearly 100 years,a lot of researches on different aspects of train derailment were done by scholars around the world,making great contributions of preventing train derailment.Due to the cause of the train derailment is complicated,practice shows that the initiative protection can not completely prevent derailment accidents.So,studying the motion behavior and dynamic characteristics after train derailment has important significance for effectively reduction accidents and reducing casualties and property damage.Firstly,This paper described a planar rigid-body model to analysis the forces and motions of each part of rail cars in a train derailment.The model is implemented using a commercial software package called ADAMS(Automatic Dynamical Analysis of Mechanical Systems).Parameters sensitive of the gross motions of rail cars in a train derailment were examined using the model.These parameters include: the number of cars in the train make-up,on and off track coefficient of friction,maximum coupler swing angle,and the initial conditions.Overall,the parametric examination proved that despite some noticeable variation with model characteristics,none was severe or erratic,and the basic model is considered sufficiently robust.A 30-cars model was established,considering the collisions between the top 10 cars after the 10 cars decouple.According to the different time,the contact between cars was categorized as either initial or secondary contact after the cars decouple during the train derailment.Initial contact was more serious than secondary contact comparing the relative speed and impact forces between the two types of contact.Because of the tank car mostly undertakes the transportation of dangerous gases and liquids,once the tank cars is contacted in the train derailment,easy to cause the breakage of the tanks and leakage of dangerous goods.According to the possible contact situation,some measures to enhance tank car crashworthiness were put forward from three ways,including blunted impact loads,collision energy absorbed and stronger the tank.It is very difficult to simulate train derailment,because movements and forces under the condition of train derailment are complex.In this paper,the vehicle model is simplified to 2-d rigid body structure,using the ADAMS software to analyze and simulate the forces and movements after the train derailment.Based on this,advances some measures of enhancing the tanker crashworthiness.
