Based on finite element limit equilibrium method and the traditional limit equilibrium method, by using software geo-studio and stab program, this paper concentrates on analysing the dam slope stability of Nuozhadu Hydropower Station straight core wall rock-fill dam. This paper simulates and calculates slope stability of three conditions respectively, those are:seepage condition, reservoir water rapid draw-down condition and completion condition under two different constitutive model(non linear elastic model and linear elastic model).Meanwhile, analysing and contrasting the consequences. Results show that,on the one hand, the slope safety coefficient calculated by finite element limit equilibrium method is smaller than the slope safety coefficient calculated by traditional limit equilibrium method, but the difference between them is not obvious, which indicates that the finite element limit equilibrium method in the special slope analysis is applicable,it also shows the result of finite element limit equilibrium method is relatively safe and more close to real by simulating the real slip surface stress and strain distribution. On the other hand, there is a huge difference between the different constitutive model, results show that it is very important to consider the non linear characteristic of soil.
