This an era requires highly efficient information exchanging. In architecture point of view, it also require architects to have a clear vision about projects, familiar with the process of design concept development, meanwhile, to express the idea accurately and precisely, and to organize all the information. An architectural model, as the most perceptual approach expressing architecture, has been widely used in the process of concept development.Different from the past studies of the role of models in the designing process, my research is aiming at the reciprocal relationship between models and architecture itself. Based on the case study and design theory, to draw a conclusion of expressing approaches and transformation between concept, models and expression. The Model-Expressing-Concept indicates the way to narrate the story during the design and process. The base point is Process. This essay is mainly divided into three sections: the first part is to explain the concept of model, expression and concept, including prescribing the limit and specifying. The second part is the main part of this essay. It described the model expression in concept developing. It includes concept extract, concept organization, concept development, concept synchronization, and model expression according to each stage of these aspects, to get the overall idea of the necessary information and expression of the generating process of the physical model. The third part based on the first two parts, acquired the clue of Model-Expressing-Concept. Using the clues of model expressing approaches that indicated in the first two sections, to unscramble the classic precedents: WYLY Performing Arts Center in Dallas by Rem Koolhas and the Sendai Mediatheque by Toyo Ito. Unveiling their designing concept in the project and the way they express it by architectural models. Also differentiating their respective techniques in designing process. Conclusions will be made by the end of the essay, as well as a periscopic description about the future applications.
