As a basic structural unit of urban space, the spatial pattern of the block is closely related to that of urban space. Fixating on “block” space of the Open Port City, this paper places “block” into the evolution of the urban spatial form, and systematically analyses the characteristics of the spatial form of the blocks in Tianjin and its evolution features. This paper has 5 chapters. Chapter I illustrates the backgrounds and relevant theories, making the content and framework of the research clear and then Chapter II defines relevant concepts and research subject. Dividing the evolutionary process of the urban spatial form of Tianjin into different stages from a macro perspective, Chapter III analyses the development status of Tianjin from three aspects of development background, development direction, and urban structure, in order to summarize the constructions of typical blocks in each period. Based on Chapter III, Chapter IV explores the spatial characteristics of typical blocks in each period from three aspects of the scale, internal organization, and spatial structure, and analyses the causes further. Chapter V summarizes the full text of this paper.
