Research Of Zhang Nanyuan And Garden

As the landscape designer of Ming and Qing Dynasty, Zhang Nanyuan was good at making artificial hills, he created different way to make artificial hills from the past practices of landscape, leading the new stones aesthetic standards. His artistic practice of landscape has greatly promoted the development of garden art, indicating the maturity of the Chinese classical garden and artificial hills.Meanwhile, it also promotes the spread and exchange of gardening skills between different fields.These gardens which were created by Zhang Nanyuan, concentrated in the southern regions, and they were numerous. This conclusion comes from the literatis of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, like Huang Zongxi and Dai Mingshi.And even "Qing Shi Gao" had the similar record. Professor of Beijing Construction Engineering University Mr. Cao Xun wrote, "Zhang Nanyuan is one of the best master of landscape design. His works have greatest quality and quantity.No one surpass him."At present, there is no research about Zhang Nanyuan overseas.In China, we lack the systematic research on this aspect and perspective of the research is relatively simple, one-sided. Only the research of Mr. Cao is relatively comprehensive and in-depth, he uses the historical method to research Zhang Nanyuan's lifetime, gardening works, and analyze the characteristics of those works.The view of this thesis is from the landscape point, through the analysis by 25 gardens of Zhang Nanyuan's works, combining literature and previous studies, summarizing the steps and methods of landscape design, and aesthetic orientation. Besides, I compare with the same period gardens monograph "Yuan Ye" and do a series of analysis, exploring deeply the art characteristic of Zhang Nanyuan's works. This thesis also explore the significance for the development of the landscape today, Finally it elaborate the influence of Zhang Nanyuan's landscape thoughts and practices for landscape design of future generations.
