Urban traffic congestion is a serious problem currently facing the world. To solve the increasingly serious urban traffic problems, the research and application of Intelligent Transportation System has become an inevitable choice of countries. In recent years, the construction of intelligent public traffic system in China has been rapid development, and the level of informationization has improved constantly.However, manufacturers, system integrator established vehicle information system relatively independent, closed, communication mode and the communication protocol can not unified, interconnection, resulting in vehicle information system redundant construction and waste of resources, the overall level is difficult to improve.Therefore, it is necessary to design a set of both good expansibility and compatibility of the standardized transportation protocol for transferring vehicle information in intelligent public system.This thesis analyzes the current situation of the development of the Intelligent Transportation System. To solve the problems and shortcomings of existing intelligent transportation system, and emphasizes on the requirements analysis in data exchange. According to the result of the above requirements analysis, designed to satisfy the various needs of business communication protocol. The communication protocol is divided into seven sub-categories, respectively, terminal management class,location alarm class, basic settings class, information class, multimedia class, file transfer and universal data transmission class, realize the classification of commands and data transmission. The more details of structure, type are described. And then a communication test platform is established with a connection-oriented TCP/IP protocol communication mode.In order to verify the rationality of the design of communication protocol, a test platform is built using Node.js technology and the research objects of the communication protocol are partly verified. At last the researched works are summarized and the future works are pointed out.
