The Research On The Contemporary New Regionalism Architectural Practice In Taiwan

Taiwan and the Mainland all share the same ancestors,historical and cultural background.Although the explorations of the regional architecture have been taken respectively for more than 60 years since the two sides’ political partition from 1949,eventually they all made proud achievements after lots of twists and turns,gropes and stagnations.In Taiwan,the regionalism can be understood as an architectural awareness and a kind of attempts which can express the traditional forms,space,materials and technologies of Taiwan local buildings.This is a virtual part of the development of Chinese regional architecture,and it also has particular important values of references and researches.How to deal with the impact of modern civilization and not to lose characteristics? This is not only the problems which Taiwan is facing,but also the Mainland has to solve.The city’s development brings about the discussion of tradition and future for us.After the recovery of Taiwan,values become more and more mature and diverse,open and real.Similarly,construction industry has been changed,the new generation of architects were still walking forward along modernism route slowly instead of following the American post-modern movement.Some architects fall into introspection because of the impact of modern architecture and the concern of traditional forms.What kind of way do Taiwan architects need to select actually? Which direction is Taiwan construction industry to move on?Then,it’s come to know that only local traditions can touch people’s heart most in the ordinary,so the regional thinking of buildings struck a chord among architects.A group of young architects calmed down,and paid more attention to the contemporary society and life.They thought architecture should not be a simple reaction to politics and commerce.Then they treated their buildings as works rather than goods,paid more attention to humanities and environment,and combined the modern and the tradition to meet the public psychological demand,then they completed a series of sincere architectural experiments and gained lots of social positive response.After that,Taiwan regional architectures were no longer to seek identity with forms,but returned to the essence of regional architectures by approachable space and the space closely related to living.This is worthy of making serious efforts in thinking and reference to us counterparts during the period of the Reform and Opening-up and early stage of social transformation in Mainland China with rapid growing of economy and construction market.In view of this,based on the relevant theoretical study about Neoregionalism,the Neo-regionalism architectures from Taiwan will be involved as the researching objects to illustrate the fundamental principles such as creation thoughts and design methods thus to summarize the reliable experiences to enlighten or reference the future design works.
