In the 21st century, with the advance of quality education and the prevalence of alternate-generation cultivation, primary education is attracting more and more attention of parents. The construction of primary schools is closely associated with the learning and growth of primary school students, since primary education plays an important role in the growth of these pupils, taking most of their living and learning time.Along with the implementation of China's two-child policy,we can expect to see increasing pupil population and more primary schools. Therefore, the design of new primary school campuses is becoming a new research subject, the focus of which is no longer the teaching space, but the corridor space closely related to the pupils' behaviors. As the main space of a primary school, the design of corridor space has unlimited potential. This dissertation studies on the corridor space in primary school buildings, analyzing the design of corridor space in terms of both space constitution and the pupils' behavioral psychology.Through theoretical analysis and field research, this article mainly discusses about the connections between the corridor space in primary schools and their main buildings as well as design techniques for the main body of corridor space. The introduction part gives a brief account of the research background and meaning of this dissertation, explains the concept of corridor space and related research situation in China and abroad, and sorts out the research approach and framework. The second chapter illustrates the constitution features of corridor space, discusses about the connections between corridor space and traditional school buildings, and summarizes the functions and roles of corridor space in primary school buildings by analyzing the evolution history of corridor space in school buildings. The following part analyzes the design of corridor space in primary schools in terms of space constitution based on the connections between corridor space and main buildings;and in terms of main body based on the connections between corridor space and the subject—primary school students, putting forward new design trend of corridor space in consideration of the pupils' psychological and behavioral characteristics. The final part reveals the elements of corridor space that affect behavioral psychology and sums up design techniques from these elements for the main body of corridor space that adapt to modern primary schools;and concludes corridor space solution for new primary schools that adapts to the growth of primary school students, combining case studies with design practice. The overall idea of this article is to interpret the roles and functions of corridor space in primary schools from the relationship between corridor space and the buildings/the users. It interprets the relationship between corridor space and main buildings based on space constitution theories and the relationship between corridor space and the primary school students based on behavioral psychology and environmental psychology theories, detailing the elements and design techniques of corridor space. In modern society where comprehensive development is emphasized, the goal of building corridor space is to provide comfortable and pleasant growth environment for primary school students. This subject has drawn much attention from architects, which is of great significance for accelerating the development of non-teaching space in primary school campuses.
