Recent years, with the rapid development of urban rail transit in China, the number of people who choose to tack subway is gradually increasing, most of who requires the high efficiency of space. While the degree of aging in our country is aggravated, and the concept of universal design is extensively spread, the demands of slow passengers in urban rail transit gain more and more emphasis. At the beginning of construction, the design of urban rail transit station only considered the demands of major high-efficiency passengers other than those of all kinds of impaired. In response to the inherent contradiction between high efficiency of transfer and low speed of vulnerable groups,as well as to the fact that the situation of barrier-free design is poor and the concept of universal design is absent in current urban rail transit design,by analyzing the characteristics of all kinds of people and the particularity of public space in urban rail transit terminal, studying the outstanding cases of universal design in urban rail transit at home and aboard, and investigating the present situation of public space in urban rail transit terminal with specialty of China, the paper tries to summarize the shortage of existing barrier-free design and its distance from universal design,to learn the advanced experiences from foreign countries, and to put forward the key points of architectural design in the public space of urban rail transit terminal, which are convenient for all kinds of people to the maximum extent, and aims to draw attention of related fields to this issue,in order to build a safe, cozy, continuous and high-efficiency travel environment with no barrier and achieve the final goal for construct a livable city.
