Mainly based on spatial carrying capacity,this paper focuses on the protective renovation issues of the traditional settlements,which under the background of the tourism development.Through a study on the previous renovation of traditional settlements,the paper summarizes the current practical problems and specifies the significance of spatial carrying capability.Here after,Wuhu(a city located in Anhui province)ancient city is taken as an illustration.The paper enumerates the elements of Wuhu ancient city that affect the spatial carrying capacity via an analysis of spatial carrying capacity calculation formula.At the end,it makes a summary of the guidance rule,strategies,and concrete measures of optimizing spatial carrying capacity in Wuhu ancient city,and discovers the best-optimized spatial carrying capacity technical line for the renewal and renovation of traditional settlements.The main part of the paper could be divided into four sections.Being as the preface,the first section settles down the perspectives,ideas,methods and framework of research,in view of the current research in China and foreign countries.In the second section,the paper conducts a retrospect to the traditional settlements' tourism development courses by analyzing the patterns of tourism development,and displays a list of the renovation concepts' development,which helps to reveal the importance of spatial carrying capability.The third section is an introduction of the renewal and renovation program about Wuhu ancient city.Considering its status and tourism resources,the elements that affect the spatial carrying capability will come out through the analysis of the existing spatial capacity calculation methods.The fourth section is the key one,mainly concludes the guidance rules,strategies and concrete measures of spatial carrying capability in the Wuhu ancient city's renewal and renovation program,which validates the optimized results of spatial carrying capacity after went through the renovation measures.Then it forms a technology line,which is complete,based on optimizing spatial carrying capability of traditional settlements' renovation.Taking the optimizing spatial carrying capacity into account,the paper starts from the overall planning level on the part of strategy,which coordinates the relationship of Wuhu ancient city and the region where it located.It makes a macro adjustment and sound position to its tourism development;several zones were partitioned according to their spatial carrying capacity and the intensity of adjustment.In the middle level,considering the cultural relics protection,the paper combines the current conditions and development theme of different areas to implement the renewal of tour route and space.On the micro level,a plan and design was proceed to arrange the road system,public services,greening,landscape,tour route and so on.At last,to compare the theoretical calculation results of spatial carrying capacity before and after the renewal verifies the effect of renovation,displaying its effectiveness and variation tendency.By studying and summarizing the practice of spatial carrying capacity during the Wuhu ancient city program,the paper raises a relatively systematic optimization strategies and concrete measures to enrich the theory and practice for the renewal and renovation of the existing traditional settlements.This paper could become a reference and guidance for the future traditional settlement renewal and renovation to rationally adjust and optimize spatial carrying capacity,and balance the relationship between protection and renovation.
