With the constant improvement of the electric locomotive running speed, the Pantograph arc phenomenon becomes more and more serious. It has becomes the important factors that affect the locomotive speed. The Pantograph arc not only can make the distortion of the voltage and current waveform, it also can make the quality of locomotive electric current lower and the on-board electrical equipment produces high frequency over voltage. And then it will threaten system insulation, affect the normal operation of the locomotive electric apparatus and aggravate the skateboard and catenary wire arc erosion, shorten its service life. In addition, the bow net arc also will launch high intensity width band electromagnetic noise into the surrounding environment, and then produces high frequency electromagnetic interference to the other communication signals along the railway and control signals of locomotive. It may even cause communication discontinuity or paralysis, which seriously affects the quality of power supply and the locomotive of the train running safety. Therefore, it is significance to study the arc and electromagnetic noise of the pantograph and catenary system. In this paper, the arc radiation noise generate by the off line arc of the pantograph systems is researched on the background of electrified railway. Firstly, we analyzed the characteristics of off line arc, after verification the system can well simulate the arc characteristic of catenary. This article simulates the operating state of the pantograph-catenary system by use of the self-made Sliding electrical contact experiment machine, analyses the electromagnetic noise spectrum by Using FFT transform and studies the influence of parameters such as contact pressure, current on the electromagnetic noise. The results show that with the increase of contact pressure, electromagnetic noise amplitude firstly increases and then decreases, the interference frequency bands firstly become narrow and then widen; With the increase of contact current, electromagnetic noise amplitude increases gradually as well as the interference frequency bands. The change of physical form when the Pantograph arc burning is observed by using S-PRI high-speed camera. Moreover, the paper theoretically analyzes contact pressure and current are the important factors affecting Pantograph arc based on the thermal and the field emission current density.
