The basic purpose of electric system and the operation or electric power corporations is to provide users with electric power which is characterized by safety, high quality and economy. The voltage is one of the most important indexes to evaluate the quality of electric power. If the voltage is too low, the energy loss and the power consumption of system elements will increase and the stability of the system may even be influenced, which might lead to the voltage collapse. However, if the voltage is too high, the insulation function of the electric appliance will be destroyed, which will further lead to the damage to the appliance. The SVC(Static Var Compensator)could compensate the static var of the system in a short period of time so as to guarantee the stability of voltage, to reduce the network loss and to improve the efficiency of electric power utilization. The compensation for the statiG var could help maintain the stability of voltage so that such a compensator has been applied widely in the modern electric system.In this thesis, the condition of the voltage, load characteristics and the static var of the power grid in western region of Fushun are investigated so as to get the conclusion of the features of the power grid in western region of Fushun, including:the capacity of the static var in this system is inadequate; the major impact load is electrolysis. Besides, the problems with the power grid is also revealed, including, the static var capacity of this grid is inadequate; the speed regulation mode is too simple; the qualification ratio of the voltage is too low. Besides, the new hanging 66kv static var compensator the electric substation installed in Lishizhai power substation is introduced as the solution to the problems. Besides, the differences between that SVC and the traditional SVC are introduced from the perspective of the mode of connection, the thyristor valve trigger mode and the control system of power supply. Hence, it could be proved that the new SVC is more advantageous than the traditional one in the stability, the faster response and the low fault rate.Finally, the SVC technological solution project and commissioning tests in Lishizhai are designed. The analysis of the kvar of the power substitution in Lishizhai is analyzed so as to make sure of the SVC capacity. By means of the commissioning tests, the connection of the SVC installation is testified. Besides, the supportive influence of the various mechanical components of SVC under the condition of high voltage on the busbar voltage is also testified. In addition, the voltage and network loss in the power grid in western region in Fushun are also compared in this thesis.
