With the increasing technology and deeply environment problem,people pay more attention on the new energy vehicles. The electric vehicle(EV),as a typical representative of new energy vehicles,has great potential for development. How to make sure that every component of the EV works in a rational temperature is one of the most important issues in improving its performance.This paper has done some research based on cooling system of motor and motor drive of a EV,which is created by Dong Feng motor corporation.Firstly,a reasonable selection of cooling system components including radiator and cooling fan according to cooling demands of the company have made and some bench test has done to ensure the components meet the demand. Then it has launched the road test in a special condition and got the relevant data. During this work,numerical model has been established through reasonable simplification of actual vehicle structure. After calibration basing on road test data,feature of flow field and temperature field in the power tank under various conditions was investigated. Finally,making 1D numerical simulation of the established cooling system has been made. Allowable working environment temperature of the radiator was set as the indicator,performance of the cooling system was evaluated. Optimization design has been carried out from the aspect of energy conservation and expense reduction.This study has found that the ability of cooling system is surplus with the capacity of radiator is 30 percent above and the capacity of cooling fan is 60 percent. The results give a good guidance for the company to improve the performance of the cooling system.
