Motor controller, as one of the pure electric vehicles` three core technology, constitu-tes the heart of pure electric vehicles with motor. Thermal design of the motor controller is crucial to its marketing and stability. Most of the controller radiator`s study are used to based on experience and experiments. It costs lots of manpower and money to accomplish the design of ideal controller radiator, which is a cycle of design-processing-test-improve-ment, since it have to satisfy the requirement of radiating. With the help of parametric des-ign tool, such as UG(3-D modeling software) and ANSYS(finite element analysis software), the parametric model of controller radiator was built. Moreover, the simulation of the controller radiator was fulfilled by fluid dynamic software. The design was verified by the test, which is based on the simulation. After all it is optimized by the parameter optimizat--ion tool, which can satisfy the requirement of radiating with less weight.Based on the working characteristic of the electric vehicle‘s motor controller, this pa--per summarized the research status domestic and abroad, the basic theory of thermal ana--lysis and thermal research methods. With the prepare work of these, controller`s 3-D radiating model was built. And the simulation thermal boundary conditions was determined by the controller`s thermogenesis and radiating model. The designed controller radiator was processed and the radiating fan was chosen. All the projects had been tested by load experiment. With the condition of heat conduction and heat convection, the fluid dynamic simulation of controller radiator was completed by Icepak(electric radiating software). According to the test and the simulation data, the designed simulation can describe the working controller`s heating and radiating condition in a pretty good way.At last, with the help of ANSYS, position parameter, such as the radiator`s fin size, fin spacing, distance between fan and radiator and etc. were optimized. Through multiob--jective optimization and iterative, the radiator, which can both satisfy the radiating requi--reement and has the minimum quality, with the lowest temperature, was designed. It set up the electric car motor controller radiator design optimization process as well.
