Automobile panel forming process is very important. Generally, automobile panel die consists of blanking, trimming and flanging die, trimming process is one of the main processes. The quality of trimming design directly affects the quality of the contours. The design method of trimming die has become a key technology of manufacture for automobile panel die.In this paper, it analyzes the development of the automobile panel trimming die, studies the structure and features of automobile panel die, researches and summarizes the specific methods of mold design. The traditional method of parametric design is completing the whole design process once, this method is complex and unstable. At first, the working part should be divided in modular parts, then parametric design. Curve dealing method is studied to develop the program parametric design. Model parametric design is used to edit the standard parts and its reposition.Author finds that the exploration and using of modular design has important theoretical and practical significance on the basis of parametric technology. It divided a complex design process into a series of simple design steps, which could be integrated as a design system. It can simplify the design process and improve the stability of the system, also improve the efficiency and standardization of mold design. Based on the structural and functional characteristics of automobile panel trimming die, it researches the program parametric and model parametric of trimming die. And based on parametric design techniques, for different features of each trimming part, choose the best design method for different parts of the trimming die. Then with developing the program based on NX, it achieves the parametric design system for trimming die of working parts. The system has been applied to the enterprise, showing that the system can greatly shorten mold design cycle, and improve the quality.
