Airborne graphic processing unit is the core component of integrated display system which is an important part of avionics system. According to the demand of airborne display system, graphic generator unit and video mixing unit has been designed on FPGA in this paper to meet the different occasion on aircraft.Different performance indexes have been put forward corresponding to different display needs. Hardware architecture and working principle of airborne graphic processing unit have been expounded, and also the internal module division in FPGA. This paper focuses on the processing mechanism of graphic and video, and puts forward the implementation method on FPGA. Graphic generator unit focuses on the generation and anti-aliasing algorithm of various basic graphics, hardware accelerated algorithm of airborne integrated screen. Video mixing unit decodes video signals of different format. Considering of the different solution and FPS of input video signals, algorithms of image matting, real-time stretching and blending of continuous video have been presented in this paper and have been applied on video mixing unit. To improve the performance of FPGA system, large scale pipeline have been used in the process of calculation.Airborne graphic processing unit designed in this paper have passed the testing process and turned into trial operation stage. On this study, research and development of domestic special chip for airborne graphic processing unit become possible with FPGA platform.
