As a new kind of building envelopes, double skin fa?ade presents the characteristic of well transparency and artistic beauty. Especially the characteristic of energy-saving makes more and more architects and investors laud double skin fa?ade to the skies. However for lacking of the relative theoretical guidance, many double skin fa?ade buildings are paid more attention to the artistic beauty but its enormous energy conservation potential, which results in huge waste of energy resources.This paper takes a double skin fa?ade building in the hot-summer and cold-winter district as example to study its thermal performance. It makes the simulation of temperature and velocity field in the air layer of the double skin fa?ade building with a CFD software, and analyzes the impacts of the air layer widths, opening sizes and louver shading's positions on the thermal performance. At the same time, this paper conducts an experiment about temperature in the air layer in different kind of weather, and contrasts the testing data with the simulation results to verify the reliability of the simulation.The computing results in summer indicate that temperature and velocity of the air in the layer decrease with the width varies from o.2m to 0.5m. Temperature nearby the outside glass increases when the width varies from 0.6m to 0.9m, however the velocity stay stable. As the opening size varies from 0.1m to 0.45 m, temperature of the air in the layer decreases, but velocity increases. Then the opening size varies from 0.45 m to 0.6m, temperature of the air keeps stable but velocity decreases. Temperature and velocity distribute more regularly with the louver shading in the middle of the layer or near the outside glass than located close to the inside glass. The testing data in sunny day keeps well accordance with the simulation result, which means the simulation results have certain reliability.In winter the temperature presents obvious lamination in the air layer, that is high temperature in the upper position and low temperature in the bottom. What's more there is circular air flow around the louver shading in the layer. As the width of the air layer varies from 0.2m to 0.9m, the temperature in it increases first, then remains stable. Consequently enlarging the width of the air layer properly can increase the temperature of building envelope, which will lead to energy conservation.
