Design Strategy Research Of Elderly-friendly Community Space Based On Environmental Behavior Theory

With the ageing boom hitting China, elder people are taking an increasing proportion of the whole population, which has drew more and more attention from the public. Based on relevant research, the author has found that promoting and building a new supporting model for the aged that is family-based or community -oriented is the key to solve the ageing issue in China. In order to establish an elderly-friendly environment, it is vitally important to discuss and explore questions such as how to give full play to a community, how to build a good living environment for the aged within a community and how to improve the life quality for the elderly, both mentally and physically.The author started to focus on a series of issues of the building of an elderly- friendly community. Based on the information from the Internet, relevant books and on-site investigation combined with the theories of environment-behavior study, the author has developed a system of design strategy for an elderly-friendly community. This system consists of four main models. This essay is to point out some design strategies of an elderly-friendly community from the perspective of environment-behavior studies, with the aim to make community design meet the overall need of an aging society. The essay will offer some new ideas and ways of practice in the field for further discussion and studies.The first and second chapters of the article will summarize the cases of elderly communities from home and overseas and also introduce relevant environment-behavior theories. Based on the content above, further analysis of elderly-friendly community features will be given. Themed with the elderly people’s behavioral and psychological need in space and environment, chapter three to six will present four design strategies of an elderly-friendly community: "communication space", "participation promoted space", "space with a strong sense of belonging" and "space with high security". These four chapters parallel each other in the logical structure of the article, with different points of concern in each one. These are the most important part of the article.In severe aging society as a whole today, community-based home care model will become the mainstream of pension model, suitable for The old age of the whole community will gradually develop to maturity. Both at home and abroad by excellent case studies and summary, as well as ongoing research and depth of four strategies for building space spiritual in nature, so that the community space is more fit overall environment and the overall requirements of an aging society, to create more focus on mental community initiative space requirements and residents, as well as all-age community in improving relevance in terms of the integration of old and has a very important significance.
