One of the key research content of building thermal mass characteristic study is thebuilding envelope design, the thermal performance analysis of traditional buildingenvelope usually adopt the method of "form decides function". That is, around thepremise of knowing the building envelope form, material and its thermophysicalproperty, then analyzing the building's thermal properties, and on this basis, getting theappropriate heating and cooling load, and confirming the heating and cooling system.This analytical method of building envelope design usually lead to energyoverconsumption just like?sledgehammer to crack a nut?, so it is difficult to determinethe optimal form of the building envelope, the best thermal properties of materials andthe suitable heating and cooling mode. Therefore, the excellent thermal mass houseshould not add the additional air conditioning cooling or heating load under keepingindoor thermal comfort, which makes the building itself become the ideal?atrociousweather attenuator?. Throughout the building envelope which likes the "cavernousbody" controlling, the indoor temperature fluctuations will be within the comfort rangeas much as possible. Thus, in summer, the thermal mass will store cooling capacitythrough night ventilation, which delay the time of indoor peak temperature appeared,and at the same time reduce the extreme temperature; whereas during the winter, thethermal mass will accumulate heat through solar power application, which prolong theduration time of confortable temperature, meanwhile, avoid the large fluctuations intemperature, and also reduce the uncomfortable feeling.In this paper, the methods of both theoretical anasis and experiancial argumentwere introduced, from the angle of ensuring indoor thermal comfort, and withoutincreasing the air conditioning load, and seeking the adaptive mechanisms of buildingthermal mass properties in Xi'an urban environment, and establishing the physicalmodel of the building thermal mass in this region, and giving the performance indexbased on the model, and then taking the IDCT(Integrated discomfort degree for indoortemperature) and TDCT(Integrated discomfort time for indoor temperature) as the basicstander for evaluating indoor thermal environment. Also coming up with the concept ofthe comprehensive thermal mass index DZand thermal store index, and giving thecalculating method of the parameter above, then taking its as the indexs for measuringbuildings thermal mass performance, and then giving the DZand value to satisfiedindoor thermal environment requirement in Xi'an city. When the inner thermal comfortupper limit temperature set point was30.7?, the corresponding DZneed up to3.83, andthe homologous need up to524.9KJ (K ?). In addition, this paper also makingthe building thermal store design aim at one case and analysing indoor thermalenvironment to that case based on the foregoing thermal store theory, and the studiesabove indicated a perfect building thermal store design could not only enhance interiorthermal comfort, but also reduce the building energy consumption.Thoughout the studyof residential building thermal store properties?the ultimately purpose of this paper is toguide the building envelope and building materials design and their thermal properties development.
