In the past time, accessibility environment usually reflects as facilities. Now with the developed concept of universal design, barrier-free design as a means of universal design bring more mobility convenience to people. Universal design guide both the aim of accessibility, and its result. As this reason, universal design can largely solved the limitations arising from barrier-free design in the past and improved environment in the future, using better vision to advocated the development of design.Stadia and gymnasiums, as an characteristic building with large space architecture and important place of social service, should not only serve for healthy person but the public extensively. In order to maintain the basic human right of users, sports buildings should be equipped with barrier-free even universal designed construction so that every user can make use of the facilities with more independence, convenience, and safety. Therefore research related to the sports buildings need to be improved.Study on universal design in stadia and gyms as the research subject, with its barrier-free system as a starting point, through the typical case analysis and sorting out, combined with field research and the actual project creation experience and refined, established a universal design system in stadia and gyms. This paper first analysis of the rowing-canoeing center, a variety of basic questions, summarizes a variety of theoretical and fundamental problems about barrier-free and universal design, the development course of motivation, and its transform. Based on content and disadvantages in other national technical regulations, put forward our focus on the application of accessibility and universal design. Combining with the practice, the design process is related to the important issues and summarize three systems of the design strategy about the architecture, universal design procedure, function, shape and energy saving. The theory with practice to architectural theory, at the same time in the course of the study draws lessons from other related disciplines such as economics, behavior, ecology, planning and other disciplines, more fully discussed universal design of the basic elements and optimization strategy in stadia and gyms.
