A Study On Metallic Components In The Buildings Of Chinese Eastern Railway Subsidiary

The Chinese Eastern Railway was a cross-border railway built in the late19thcentury, it was from Siberia of Russia to the northeast of China. With construction ofthis railroad in China, the railway subsidiary sprouted various industries, such astransportation, finance, culture, etc. Also, it leads to the emergence of buildingsassociated with these industries. The use of metallic materials is a distinctive featurein the buildings of subsidiary. Through the research on the types and tectonics ofmetallic component, not only can understand the metallic component in thebuildings of subsidiary clearly and intuitively, making up the research of subsidiaryarchitecture in microscopic aspects, but also provide a basis for the protection andrestoration in the buildings of Chinese Eastern Railway subsidiary.The paper is a systematic overview of metallic materials in the buildings ofChinese Eastern Railway subsidiary. At first, analysis of the main source of metalmaterials by understanding the supply of rails, because the rail accounted for thelargest proportion of metallic materials, and conclude the types of metallic materialsin the buildings of subsidiary. Then, it discusses the specific application of metallicmaterials in the buildings of Chinese Eastern Railway subsidiary. It discusses theuse of metallic materials in different parts of the buildings. Finally, it analyse fromthe properties of the metal on aspects of times, technology and art, and it reveals thenature of metallic materials.According to the different functions in the buildings, metallic component isdivided into structural component， enclosing component and other metalcomponents. The most important component in buildings is structural component.According to different structural systems, structural component can be divided intometallic component of truss structure, metallic component of enclosing componentand metallic component of other structures. According to the function of decorationor not，enclosing component can be divided into single enclosing component anddecorative enclosing component. Other metal components is including some smallmetal components use to auxiliary role.Base on expounding the system of metallic materials and metal component inthe front, the study on metallic component in the buildings of Chinese EasternRailway subsidiary starts from tectonics.It is including two parts.One of them is theconnection and the structure of metallic components,the other is the analysis ofaesthetic expression.In the part of the connection and the structure of metalliccomponents, the paper expounds single metallic components and the metalliccomponents used in combination with other materials. In the part of the analysis of aesthetic expression,the paper discussed from two aspects, the aesthetic of metallicstructural system and the influence of Art-nouveau Movement on metalliccomponents.
