Study On The Manufactuer Of The Yi Yue Qin In Yao’an County

The plucked instrument Yue Qin,known as ‘Sixian,Xianzi,Qiangzi,Jiecai’ in Yi nationality dialects,has a long tradition in the history of the Yi folk culture with profound cultural heritage and unique shape.The Yi people,who have been living in Yunnan province for generations,have long been making and playing Yue Qin.It has become the important material culture carrier of communication and emotional adjustment in Yi society.There is a folk saying: You will feel excited in heart and itchy in feet when hearing Yue Qin sound.Manufacture of Yue Qin depends on long-term experience of craftsmen,which requires superb technology,unique selection,beautiful shape and mellow sound quality.The production process condensed the Yi people natural wisdom.However,impacted by modern civilization,Yi people fond of Yue Qin crafting are becoming rare,not mention the youngsters who love Yue Qin music.Yi Yue Qin culture heritage has reached the brink of extinction.Literature research,comparative research and field investigation are adopted in this thesis to give a deep research on Yue Qin.Author of this thesis went to Yao Town,a representative place of Yi culture,for three times,and conducted deep investigations on the local township government officers,cultural station stuff,Yue Qin craftsmen,Yue Qin players,Yue Qin music lovers and local villagers,on the basis of observing the production process,so that a deep interviews on the Yi Yue Qin crafting process is studied and analyzed.Historical origin and folklore of the Yi Yue Qin crafting process from material choice to manufacture is recorded in this thesis,and a comparison between Yi Yue Qin and Han Yue Qin is also presented.Advice for protecting Yue Qin is proposed inthis thesis.This study aims to provide a reliable written record for the improvement of the Yi Yue Qin crafting process and the Yi folk culture of the minority ethnic groups.At the same time,an example for the study of the ethnic minority instrumental music is also presented in this thesis,which is beneficial to inherit,protect,promote and develop our ethnic minority traditional cultures.
