In recent years, the extraction of heavy oil in Xinjiang Fengcheng Oilfield has been gradually enlarged. The high viscosity of Fengcheng heavy oil results in the difficultis of its dehydration and transportation. The operators adopt the light oil mixing to overcome these difficulties in the dehydration and transportation. In light of the poor dehydration performance, the dehydration waste too much energy to achieve the optimized operation.During the light oil mixing transportation in Ke-Wu Pipeline, water separating from the pipelined oil impacts the pipeline transportation safety seriously. In this paper,an orthogonal design method, with “three-factor and three-level”,is proposed to study the heavy oil dehydration with the heavy oil emulsion sampled from the field by using the one-step heavy oil dehydration experiment during the presetted dehydration time. The influences of light oil dilution proportion, dehydration temperature and emulsion-breaking agent dose on dehydration performance are investigated by using range-method.Then,a two-step heavy oil dehydration experiment is designed to optimize the process and to shorten the dehydration time based on the one-step dehydration experiment result. The interaction among the light oil dilution proportion, dehydration temperature and emulsion-breaking agent dose for dehydration is analyzed with variance-method.Finally,the best treating process is recommended based on the above experimental results.Ke-Wu Pipeline operation is simulated by use of SPS software together with the rotational viscometer in lab.In addition, the influence of water cut, pipeline throughput, and heavy oil fraction on water separating in Ke-Wu Pipeline is studied to determine the predominating factors and the recommended water cut range for safe pipeline operation.
