Clothing can not only covers individual body but also conveys the information to others in view of the fact that it is an indispensable item of human life.The basic elements of clothing consist of material,style,color.etc.,of which color is critical as a cognitive factor.Color categorization has been well documented.However,color without material forms rather than that with material form,such as clothing,have primarily been served as stimuli in these researches.Clothing color categorization is a complex task,and different levels of cognition may lead to diverse categorical difficulties.In previous studies,the task difficulty was not considered as the topic of color categorization.Therefore,this study will explore the behavioral and ERP mechanism of clothing color categorization based on different task difficulty by using behavioral and EEG testing techniques.According to the aim of the study,there are six chapters in this study.In first chapter,the documents,purpose and significance of the current research are introduced;In second chapter,the categorical theory and difficulty theory of cognitive task are discussed;In third chapter,the priming words of the color categorization are determined by network survey,expert assessment and behavioral test;In the fourth chapter,the influence of properties of colors on categorization behaviors was explored through the experiment;In the fifth chapter,the electrophysiological response and brain mechanism of clothing color categorization based on different task difficulties were explored by ERP experiment;The final chapter is conclusions.The followings are main findings:(1)The colors with high purity were classified as dark,dazzling,gorgeous and elegant colors.On the contrary,the colors with low purity were classified as light,soft,plain and tacky colors.Similarly,low brightness colors were classified as dark,soft colors,while high brightness colors were classified as light,dazzling colors.(2)The response time of low cognitive levels was short,implying the categorization task was easy,individuals use thinking way of bottom-up.individuals perform a difficult task in the thinking way of up-bottom.(3)In the early stage of color categorization,the N170 amplitude of the easy task is larger,suggesting more neural resources are mobilized.(4)The right hemisphere evoked a larger N250 component,and the lateralization tendency of brain processing arised in the difficult task during color categorization.(5)The latency of P2 and P300 in difficult tasks were significantly longer than those of in easy tasks,which indicated that the classification difficulty resulted from the high cognitive level,which gave rise to the speed reduction of the brain processing due to the cognitive load.With the help of the technology of the behavioral science and neuroscience research,the research not only discovers the different color categorization rules,but also explores the brain mechanism during the categorization based on task difficulties.So this study has higher theoretical and academic value.
