Research On The Application Of Quanzhou String Puppet Plastic Arts In Apparel Design

The plastic art of Quanzhou String Puppet Theatre is a treasure of folk arts.China's string puppet theatre was formed in Han Dynasty and Tang Dynasty and had been popular in Quanzhou in late Tang Dynasty,which is earlier than the formation of Chinese Opera.Therefore,Quanzhou String Puppet Theatre can be considered as one of the sources of Chinese Opera.We should take on the mission of preserving and inheriting such an excellent folk traditional art—an ancient art with a history of one thousand years,thus making a contribution to its prosperity and evolution.In addition,the selection of such research project has certain complications for the current social situation.With the rapid development of society,economy and culture,the pressure from competition is very closely associated with almost everyone,people have less communication from the heart,and interests and rights are always the first topic of conversation.The fast-paced lifestyle is just like a whip that is constantly lashing our back,forcing people to become more excellent and stronger to avoid being knocked out of society.This state of life manipulated by society is exactly like a string puppet that always has the same smile on the face and has already get accustomed to be controlled by "strings" and to finish its performance from beginning to end according to the script.This research explores the diversified sources of apparel design elements and carries forward and inherits excellent traditional arts.Its aesthetic and artistic values involve music,sculpture,literature,opera,dance and other fields.By analyzing the characteristics and aesthetic values of the plastic arts of Quanzhou String Puppet Theatre,the author sums up and generalized the molding structures of Quanzhou String Puppet heads and the characteristics of facial makeup patterns.In this paper,we summarize the historical origin,cultural connotation's and values of Quanzhou String Puppet Theatre,and the artistic characteristics of head modeling and the characteristics of facial makeup of Quanzhou String Puppet,refer to the re-organized results,redesign in the forms of pattern decomposition,refinement,reorganization and transformation in specific practices,then apply them in costume design.By combining the presentation and color pattern design focusing on craft and techniques with innovation,the author finally realizes the application of the plastic art of Quanzhou String Puppet in apparel design and provides theoretical evidence and practice guidance with Chinese cultural connotations and historical details for the application of Chinese traditional arts in apparel design.
