Abstract/Summary:
This paper makes a comparatinely synthetic study on Dunhuang’s caisson lotus pat tern in the Tang Dynasty through analyzing the pattern’s development,formative featur es,formative elements,color performance decorative arts.It firstly discusses the patterns of the caisson in the Tang Dynasty lotus aesthetic characteristics and cultural connotatio n,and then analyzes the design and traditional decoration arts’ inspiration to modern de sign concept.It is concluded that through specific examples demonstrated in thins paper,the applications and practice of Dunhuang’s caisson lotus pattern not only have theoreti cal significance of carrying forward traditional culture,but also have practical values.This article is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is an introduction which makes a brief description of the purpose and significance ofthis thesis,examining curre nt research on this subject at home and abroad as well as the research methods employe d in the paper.The second chapter firstly describes the origin of lotus’ design,structure a nd decoration,then points out the four aspects of the cultural background that affect Tan g Perial’s Dunhuang caisson lotus decoration: the Dunhuang local cultural tradition,Chi nese local culture in the Tang Dynasty,the exotic culture,and the secular culture.Chapt er three centers on the decorative art and the schematic aesthetic characteristics of caiss on lotus pattern.Firstly,it simply describes the development of Dunhuang caisson lotus decoration arts in four different stages of Tang Dynasty.Secondly,it analyzes basic pat terns of Dunhuang caisson lotus design and its units.Thirdly,it briefly analyzes four fea tures of caisson lotus’ color performance : more integrated use of color,red and green c ombination of contrast,high and luxuriant aureate and refund halo method of use.Finall y,the paper summarizes the schematic aesthetic features of the tangles of Dunhuang lot us pattern,which are characterized by the uses of well-distributed balance and sophistic ated craftsmanship.Chapter Four explores the application of caisson lotus pattern to co ntemporary silk scarf designing.We believe that this process should be guided by the th ree principles of nationality,art and fation.The aspects of modelling,colour,compositi on of three concrete analysis of the Dunhuang caisson lotus pattern can be seen in the Fa n Yanyan scarves of art and design that make full use of its design style,alongside the de monstration of her products and related awards.Chapter Five is the conclusion of the fe elings of writing this article.The research methods of this project are as follows:first,to make a brief cultural in terpretation on Dunhuang’s caisson lotus pattern;Secondly,to examine its modelling,co lor and units through the perspectives of image and a esthetics studies.And its aesthetic value and aesthetic characteristics of schema look;Third,based on the investigation to t he Fan Yanyan art silk scarves,to explore Dunhuang’s caisson lotus pattern’s applicati on in modern silk scarves design principle and practice,in the hope of making some us eful surveys in improving national and traditional art in modern design.
