Since the second industrial revolution,the technology of barrel finishing has become increasingly mature,and the research on tumbling chip abrasives has made great achievements.Nowadays,there are only three kinds of tumbling chip abrasives,namely ceramic matrix,resin matrix and metal matrix tumbling chip abrasives,which have disadvantages of fewer species and defective abilities to the practical application.Inspired by the mature application of rubber wheel and polishing pad,natural rubber and polyurethane rubber were selected as the substrate,the process of mixing,heating and pressurizing vulcanization were adapted to prepare elastic tumbling chip abrasives.The influence of different sizes and contents of abrasive,shapes,sizes and hardness of tumbling chip abrasives were analyzed to lay the foundation for its mass production and application.The main research contents are as follows:1.The natural rubber was chosed as the substrate to prepare the tumbling chip abrasives using the corundum as abrasives,then the influence of different particle sizes and different contents of corundum on physical and mechanical properties of the tumbling chip abrasives was analyzed.The silicon aluminum alloy specimen with initial roughness Ra value of 1 ?m was processed by centrifugal tumbling process.The performance of the tumbling chip abrasives was investigated from three indexes,that is the change of the surface roughness value of the specimen,the grinding rate and the wear rate of the tumbling chip abrasives.It is found that the processing effect of the tumbling chip abrasives with W10 brown corundum is better,which can be the best when the mass ratio of matrix and abrasive is 1:6,while the weakness of high wear rate and short service life are signicant.2.The wear-resistant polyurethane rubber was chosed as the substrate to prepare three different ratios of tumbling chip abrasives using W10 corundum as abrasives.The processing object is the same as above and it is found that the performance of the tumbling chip abrasives whose mass ratio of polyurethane and corundum is 1:4 is the best,and the surface roughness value of the sample is the lowest after processing,the Ra value of which is 0.189 ?m,and the descent speed of roughness value is the fastest.The wear rate in the three kinds of tumbling chip abrasives is the highest,but only reaching approximately half of that of ceramic matrix and resin matrix tumbling chip abrasives.3.The Specimens with the initial surface roughness value of 0.5 ?m and 6.0 ?m were processed by the prepared polyurethane tumbling chip abrasives.The results show that the surface roughness value Ra of the specimen with the highest content of corundum can decrease to 0.164 and 0.232.4.A special mould for the production of conical tumbling chip abrasives was prepared.According to the optimum formula known in the above,the conical tumbling chip abrasives is prepared,and the processing effect of the tumbling chip abrasives with different shapes and sizes is analyzed.The results show that the surface roughness of the specimen processed by tumbling chip abrasives with larger size and more edges and corners decreases rapidly in the initial stage of processing,however,the final specimen surface roughness value is relatively larger.5.Three kinds of tumbling chip abrasives with different hardness were prepared by adding different amount plasticizer DMEP in the formula.The experimental results show that the surface roughness value Ra of the workpiece with the initial surface roughness value Ra of 0.5 ?m after the processing of the soft tumbling chip abrasives is the lowest.For the workpiece with initial surface roughness value Ra of 1.0 ?m,the surface roughness value of the processed workpiece is the lowest.The grinding rate and wear rate of the most hard tumbling chip abrasives are the highest,which are the opposite to the most soft tumbling chip abrasives.The above study shows that the tumbling chip abrasives prepared with polyurethane rubber has many advantages such as simple preparation process,high processing efficiency,excellent processing effect,low wear rate and wide application prospect and so on.The paper fills the study blank of low hardness and high elastic tumbling chip abrasives with active function to the development of the barrel finishing technology.
