Costume Analysis Of Great Britain In Early 20th Century From Downton Abby

The Downton Abby is a series of British traditional teleplay which produced by ITV in 2010,it describes the everyday life of different social classes happened in 20 th Century during the early period of George V in the Great Britain,which the Lord Garntham's family as upper patrician class and their maid represent the plebeian class.This series has established a close bond of all characters' fates with corresponding social movements,which turly reveals the historical changes during that time.This thesis aims to evaluate the costume and style for all characters in The Downton Abby era which is the first three decades of the early 20 s.This is a period which full of social transitions and movements.The former background is incorporation with the heritage of Victoria style and the romatic era from Edward VII,whereas the British aristocratic have to give up all luxurious lifestyle since George V.When the WWI has been triggered in 1914,the last Bristish aristocratic has been gradually dying in the war and revolution.The changes of costume and styles could mirror the social movements.In this series,main characters dressed in classic styles during Edward era and changed to fashion style in contemporary age,then transfered to more relax and comfortable style after 1920 s.They were significant promoters who push the changing of costume styles in this era,meanwhile they also witnessed the conflicts between the traditional and trendy thoughts which came from the process of social development.Every character is the independent individeual,the appearences of them could refect the time they lived,the occupations they took.The aim of this research is to investigating the differences of historical reality and series which based on studying the tramsformation of costume and styles in The Downton Abby.
