Turandot has centuries of textual origins,and it has been performed on the opera stage for nearly a hundred years.Through the changes of The Times,the creative style of the performance has been constantly updated,and the value of cultural and historical research has been continuously enhanced.As a work of great artistic value in the history of opera,opera costume is an intuitive symbol of the expression of opera emotion.The comparative study of opera costume modeling from the perspective of semiotics can further explore the cultural connotation,aesthetic consciousness and multi-level meaning expression of opera.This study analyzes the opera costumes of Turandot by literature research,interdisciplinary research,comparative research and case analysis.In the subject,based on the relevant theories of Roland Barth’s semiotics,a systematic theoretical research framework for the meaning of clothing symbols is constructed,and an in-depth analysis and research is conducted on the clothing modeling of the three editions of Turandot from three aspects of the implied meaning,the connotative meaning and the cultural significance.Finally,from the perspective of denotation,the main role is to highlight the protagonist and increase contrast.Secondary roles are intended to facilitate actors’ activities and form unity.From the perspective of connotative meaning,the expression of identity,status and character is the aim.From the perspective of cultural significance,it takes the expression of clothing symbol spirit,creative style and thought as the aim.Through the analysis of the Chinese and western opera costume modeling design aesthetic characteristics and symbolic characteristics of the way of expression,the influence of opera costume modeling symbolic design and stage art expression;This paper further excavates the cultural connotation of opera costume,and reflects the rules of cultural communication and expression of opera costume as a non-language symbol,and puts forward some insights for the development of costume modeling of Chinese and Western stage art and the mutual integration of Chinese and Western culture.The innovation of this paper lies in the analysis from the perspective of semiotics,which can not only deeply explore its cultural connotation and aesthetic value,but also summarize the rules of information transmission of opera clothing as a non-verbal symbol,and bring enlighting and guiding suggestions to opera clothing and opera.
