Research On Nanyang Han Dynasty Stone Relief Character

Resplendent and brilliant historical civilization were created in the period of two dynasties,while as a kind of dependence,costumes bear the weight of people’s expression and pursuit of spiritual culture.Nanyang district was one of the five capitals in the period of two dynasties since there were abundant resources and merchants came together in crowds;it was the place where Eastern Han Dynasty Emperor Liu Hsiu rose to power and position.The number of nobilities who were conferred titles to Nanyang was very large;the prosperity and decline of Chu culture was also closely related to Nanyang.Han culture and Chu culture mingled with each other and influenced each other in here,forming distinctive “Chu Style Han Rime”.Under the influence of these cultural thoughts,costumes in Nanyang district have certain regional feature.The author has collected a large amount of materials about stone relief in Han Dynasty.Modern scholars have numerous researches about this special Han remains and they have compiled documents and books which are of great reference value.Through profound understanding of literatures and image materials,from the perspective of costume,the existing researches about the character costumes of stone relief in Han Dynasty in Nanyang district are thin and they lack systemic and deep researches.Researches of this thesis start from image materials and the author has conducted relative researches about the character costumes of stone relief in Han Dynasty in Nanyang district.The materials are from Han tombs with stone reliefs that were excavated in Nanyang district.Firstly,the author has adopted archaeological methods and organized relative materials in the area;then,he classifies and studies the images by stages.From the perspective of costumes,the author divides the character images of nine themes such as social life,dances and acrobatics,historical stories and tales of legendia involved in the Western Han Dynasty,Xin Dynasty and the Eastern Han Dynasty as well as the nobilities and waiters in social life images into male noble waiter costumes and female noble waiter costumes according to their costume system characteristics;also,he divides the dance costumes in Nanyang district and the foreign image of the Northern barbarian tribes in ancient China into dance and acrobatics artists costumes and barbarian costumes according to their particularity.Part three makes detailed analysis on these four types of costumes with style structure pictures.At the same time,it explains the influences of Han Dynasty traditional costumes on modern society and the influence and application of its costume component elements;also,the author has made applied design attempt of the combination of Han Dynasty traditional costumes with modern costumes according to the research content.
